The Amsterdam Mohawks, part of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, began their season once again on June 6th. Currently 20-4, the Mohawks are 1st in their league, with the Glens Falls Golden Eagles behind them in 2nd place with a record of 14-10. Ranked 6th in the National Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball Poll, as of July 2, the Amsterdam Mohawks continue to strive to move up the rankings.
Aside from their demanding game schedule, the Mohawks players have been at Alpin Haus Fitness everyday to work out and train to improve individually. Matt Pirro, pitcher for Wake Forest University explained that he really enjoys using our facility, “Alpin Haus Fitness provides us with a safe environment identical to the type we train in when we’re at school. With all the resources this gym provides we have the opportunity to refine every part of our body, improving our individual games.”

Michael Altieri, Manager of our Fitness Center, has had the opportunity to train a group of the Mohawks. “All of the players are strict on strength training programs. I quickly realized after training them that they were a very athletic group when seeing their foot speed and explosiveness. They aren’t just great baseball players but they are all nice guys too!”
Last week, starting pitcher for the Mohawks, Chandler Shepherd, was named PGCBL co-pitcher of the week, for the week of June 18-24, making him the first this season for the Mohawks to get a title. Pictutred left is Shepherd doing the agility ladder, while in a training session with Mike Altieri.
"Working out with Mike was very beneficial to me. I learned a lot of new exercises that I had not done. I can do these on my own now when I come to the gym everyday. The weight room has allowed me to stay conditioned and in shape for every outing that I have for the Mohawks. I appreciate everything and I am fortunate to have a place as nice as the Alpin Haus Fitness Center to work out at."
Shepherd, pitcher for the University of Kentucky, is now 4-0 this season. With 27.0 innings pitched, Shepherd has allowed one run on 11 hits and struck out 29, lowering his ERA to 0.33.
Evan Stephens and Ed Charlton were both named PGCBL players of the week for the week of June 25 through July 1. Last week, Stephens batted .444 with one home run, eight RBIs, 12 runs scored, nine stolen bases, one double, and one triple. Scoring four home runs last week, Charlton batted .440 with 11 RBIs, 11 runs scored, two doubles, and one triple.
