On Friday July 27th, the Amsterdam Mohawks played a long day of baseball against the Glens Falls Golden Eagles in a double header. Both games were to be played with only 7 innings. The first game however, ended after 11 innings. Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 11th, with the bases loaded, short stop Guiseppe Pappaccio fired a grounder past the third baseman, bringing in a run to end the game at 4-3.
It was Alpin Haus's second sponsored night featuring the Fitness Center. The Amsterdam Mohawks have been active members of Alpin Haus Fitness since their games started back in June. The Mohawks Vibe Dance Team also uses the gym for their practices.
The second game started when Manager Mike Altieri, represented Alpin Haus Fitness and tossed the first pitch of the game. During the game, Alpin Haus Fitness highlighted some of the equipment that is used during personal training. In the second inning, using ropes, four kids battled to see who could go the longest. In the third inning, Nicole Heck and Nico Riccio demonstrated a turkish get up with kettlebells and then employee and former Mohawks pitcher Tom McDermott, trainer John Sumpter, and Mike, demonstrated a human turkish get up. Starting pitcher, Chandler Shepherd, went home with yet another win, making his record 7-0. Shepherd is ranked as the top pitcher in PGCBL with a 1.31 ERA . The Mohawks won 3-2 and were ranked first in the league with a record of 35-12 for the regular season.
Eliminating the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs in the playoff series Monday August 6th, the Mohawks advance to the chamionship series tonight, Monday August 7th. Taylor Martin will be the starting pitcher to begin the showdown between their biggest rival this season, the Glens Falls Golden Eagles. This will be the fourth straight season that the Mohawks have advanced to the championships under head coach Keith Griffin. Amsterdam will host game one at Shuttleworth Park tonight at 7:05pm. Game two will be played in Glens Falls, and if nessicary game three will be at Amsterdam.
